The Purchasing Analyst I (Procurement Focus) is responsible for analyzing and optimizing procurement strategies. This role involves gathering and analyzing procurement data, forecasting market trends, and developing actionable insights to enhance purchasing efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Please Note: This position is a hybrid role, involving on-site work at our corporate headquarters in Concord, CA. Candidates who are fully remote or outside of reasonable commuting distance will not be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect data and analyze demand history related to procurement activities
  • Create and issue purchase orders based on demand needs and monthly receipts plan.
  • Obtain necessary approvals and ensure compliance with company financial goals.
  • Generate and provide vendors with an annual view of demand forecast
  • Monitor and track the status of all issued purchase orders to ensure timely delivery.
  • Communicate with suppliers to confirm order receipt, delivery schedules, and any changes.
  • Collaborate with Stores and other corporate departments such as Accounting and Distribution Center to edit and finalize POs.
  • Maintain regular communication with vendors to ensure smooth procurement processes, including order discrepancies, delivery delays, quality concerns and quantity discrepancies.
  • Manage the Rover and tracking database with delivery information and PO’s for purchasing team and DC.
  • Actively communicate with vendors to confirm delivery dates and update all stakeholders when there are changes to delivery dates.
  • Back up for Purchasing team as needed for responsibilities such as PO creation.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including accounting, merchandising and supply chain teams, to support business goals.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to enhance pricing and item database processes, systems, and tools. Contribute to the development and implementation of new tools and technologies to streamline pricing and data.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in an administrative role, including updating/analysing Excel spreadsheets.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, email and Teams applications required.
  • Demonstrated Excel skills required, including updating Excel spreadsheets and analyzing it to find conclusions.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (writing and troubleshooting formulas, VLOOKUP) a plus.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Access database(can run and make small changes to existing queries).
  • Strong analytical, data-driven skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Clear and effective communication skills; able to express ideas and information in a clear, concise, logical and persuasive manner verbally and in writing and adapt to the needs of diverse audiences and/or complex situations; listens actively and encourages an open exchange of ideas and different points of view.
  • Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and accuracy; able to effectively plan, manage and prioritize detailed projects/work with competing deadlines, instinctually follow-up and provide progress updates.
  • Effective relationship and teambuilding skills; able to establish and maintain cooperative, mutually respectful working relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment; able to anticipate and balance the needs and input of multiple stakeholders and make informed decisions and with tact and professionalism.
  • Able to remain calm and focused pressure situations, operate with a sense of urgency and escalate issues beyond your experience.
  • Able to effectively cope with change, shift gears and comfortably handle risk and uncertainty.

  • Experience managing competing demands with prioritization skills.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.

The salary range for this position is expected to be $26.45 - $28.85 per hour. Pet Food Express determines starting salary based on many factors, including but not limited to, local market rate, the qualified pool of candidates, internal compensation practices, a candidate’s actual skills and experience.
